FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
July 25, 2012

The newly crowned British Open Champion, Ernie Els, will return to the Frys.com Open at CordeValle Golf Club on October 10-14.
Ernie hoisted the claret jug last Sunday at Royal Lytham and St. Annes in England for his fourth major championship victory. Els also won the 2002 Open Championship and the 1994 and 1997 U.S. Open Championships.
Els spoke with Tournament President Duke Butler at the RBC Canadian Open in Ancaster, Ontario on Tuesday. He told Butler, “I enjoyed playing last year and look forward to seeing my friend Hasso Plattner at CordeValle.”
Last year Els contended all week in the Frys.com Open, scoring 69-66-67-68-270 to tie for fourth, three strokes behind Champion Bryce Molder and runner-up Briny Baird.
He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2011. Like this year’s Honoree, Ken Venturi, he won the U.S. Open at Congressional. Venturi won in 1964.
The Frys.com Open will be played the week of October 8-14, 2012 at CordeValle Golf Club. PGA TOUR members have until October 5th to commit to play in the $5M tournament.
