FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 16, 2012
CordeValle Golf Club in San Martin, California will continue to host the Frys.com Open in 2013.
In the reconfigured schedule beginning with the Fry’s Electronics sponsored tournament the week of October 7-13, 2013, the event will have increased stature as the inaugural tournament of the 2013-2014 FedExCup season.
CordeValle originally planned to host the 2010 through 2012 tournaments, but clubhouse construction at the Fry’s owned course, The Institute in Morgan Hill, will not be completed in time to host the 2013 tournament.
“The players consider CordeValle to be an excellent course in a beautiful setting, offering wonderful hospitality at the resort,” said Tournament President Duke Butler. “We are fortunate to continue an outstanding relationship with the Club.” CordeValle is a Rosewood resort.
The Golf Channel will televise the tournament worldwide to more than two hundred fifty countries.
Tournament Chairperson Kathy Kolder said “we are proud of the $1,800,000.00 in net proceeds awarded to worthy charities over the two years at CordeValle.”
The 2010 tournament was won by Rocco Mediate and in 2011 Bryce Molder earned the trophy in a six hole playoff over Briny Baird. British Open Champion Ernie Els has already committed to return to the October 8-14, 2012 tournament. Twelve previous major championship winners, including Tiger Woods last year, have played in the tournaments at CordeValle.
