FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 12, 2012
During a teleconference today, Bryce Molder expressed excitement about returning to CordeValle for the October 10 – 14 PGA TOUR tournament, the Frys.com Open.
Molder was relaxing at home in Scottsdale, having just competed in six consecutive weeks of tournaments in the FedExCup, highlighted by his ninth place finish in the Deutsche Bank Championship near Boston.
He fondly remembered his first victory on TOUR, which came in a six-hole playoff over Briny Baird after they tied at seventeen under par for seventy-‐two holes. The two-year exemption he earned bolstered his confidence he has won more than $1,043,000 on TOUR thus far this year.
Molder spoke about his excitement of playing a round with President Clinton in their home state of Arkansas. The President told everyone on site at Chenal how well Bryce was playing, and he did score a course record 60.
While the tournament expects a good field of professionals this year, including Ernie Els, Davis Love III and former Champions Rocco Mediate, Troy Matteson, Cameron Beckman, Mike Weir and George McNeill, Molder said the event will have an even better field next year.
The Frys.com Open tournament will be the season opening tournament on the reconfigured schedule, and part of the FedExCup, when it returns to CordeValle October 7 – 13, 2013.
TOUR rookie Bud Cauley was also on the media call. Playing on a sponsor exemption, Cauley finish third last year and earned $340,000 from the $5,000,000 purse, which helped him to become only the seventh player to earn his year long playing privileges without going through the qualifying tournament or graduating from the Web.com Tour.
Cauley was meeting many of the marquee players for the first time last year. During the third round he played with “Mr. Els,” whom he beat by a stroke in the tournament. Cauley is currently 39th on the money list with $1.7M in earnings. The top thirty after the Fall series tournaments gain exemptions into next year’s Masters and U.S. Open.
