COLSAERTS, DALY AND GUTHRIE AWARDED SPONSOR EXEMPTIONS FOR THE FRYS.COM OPEN

Nicolas Colsaerts, John Daly and Luke Guthrie have been awarded sponsor exemptions into the Frys.com Open, to be played October 10-14 at CordeValle.

Colsaerts is a member of the European Ryder Cup team, having been selected by Captain José María Olazábal based upon his recent performance. He won the 2012 Volvo Match Play Championship and tied for seventh in the U.S. Open at The Olympic Club.

Colsaerts is #36 in the World Rankings, and is affectionately known as the “Belgian Bomber.”

Daly won the 1991 PGA Championship and 1995 British Open. He has three other victories, and has often led the PGA TOUR in long driving. Dividing time this year between the PGA TOUR and European Tour, he is #133 on the money list in only twelve tournaments. The top 125 earn exemptions for the ensuing year.

Luke Guthrie won last week’s Web.com Tour event in Boise, Idaho to move up to #4 on their money list, assuring his playing privileges on the PGA TOUR for 2013. In three starts on the PGA TOUR this summer he placed among the top twenty in each tournament. Guthrie finished his eligibility at the University of Illinois in June and is taking thirteen hours to graduate in December.

The Frys.com Open previously awarded sponsor exemptions to 2012 College Player of the Year Patrick Cantlay of UCLA, who left school after his sophomore season to turn professional. Also, the 2011 NCAA Champion John Peterson from LSU, who tied for fourth in the U.S. Open.

Tournament Director Jeff Sanchez said the tournament will later determine the three other players for sponsor exemption selections.
