What is the Frys.com Open?

The Frys.com Open is part of the PGA TOUR’s Fall Series. The tournament will feature a full-field of 132 players and will have a total purse of $5 million, with $900,000 going to the winner.

Who will be playing in the Frys.com Open? When will the field be announced?

Players have until 5 p.m. on Friday, to Oct. 8, 2010, to commit to play in the Frys.com Open.

How much are tickets?

Daily general admission is $35. Children ages 14 and under are free when accompanied by an adult. Unless sold out, tickets will be available at the gate during tournament week. Advanced daily general admission tickets may be purchased until Thursday, Oct. 8, 2010, on the tournament website at www.frysopengolf.com or by phone at (408) 487-4653 (ITS-GOLF).

Where is Cordevalle?

CordeValle is located off Highway 101 in San Martin, which is between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. To obtain directions from online map services, please enter “1 Hummingbird Lane, San Martin, CA 95046.” Also, please refer to the next question for parking directions.

Where will I park?

The 2010 Frys.com Open offers FREE, convenient parking. Please note that the main tournament entrance will be through the Clos LaChance Winery. Follow the directions below for general admission, volunteer and VIP parking.

How can I find out what time my favorite players tee off?

Daily pairings will be published in the daily newspaper sports sections and will also be posted on the Frys.com Open website and PGATOUR.com. Thursday and Friday pairings are determined before the tournament starts, with each golfer playing one day in the morning and the other day in the afternoon. Saturday and Sunday pairings are based on a player’s score, with the leaders teeing off last. Free daily pairing sheets will also be available at the tournament.

Will there be a charity component?

Yes. Proceeds from the 2010 Frys.com Open will benefit the American Institute of Mathematics (AIM), the Fore Adoption Foundation and a select number of additional local charities.

Will the tournament be televised?

Yes. All four rounds of the tournament will be televised on The Golf Channel.

Are there restrictions on what I can bring onto the tournament grounds?

Items that are prohibited from being brought into the tournament include:

• Weapons — even with a permit, violation is a felony (ARS Sec. 13-3102).
• Cellular Phones — there are free phone call stations located around the grounds.
• Beverages (except sealed bottled water and special drinks such as baby formula)
• Food Items (unless pre-prepared, in clear bags and carried by hand in a plastic grocery style bag. Sliced fruit will be allowed.)
• Still or video cameras — Thursday through Sunday (okay Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).
• Pagers — unless they can be set to vibrate.
• Radios or TVs.
• Purses, bags, fanny packs or other carry-in items larger than 6″ x 6″ x 6″ — sizing boxes will be located at the gates, and all purses, bags and fanny packs are subject to inspection.
• The sale or give-away of tournament tickets and badges at the tournament site is prohibited.

GOLF ETIQUETTE 101

Stay quiet and stand still when the players are about to hit the ball. For your own safety, follow the directions of tournament marshals. Spectators will be removed immediately without warning for:

• Refusal to obey quiet signs or signals
• Distracting or embarrassing a player
• Making rude, vulgar or other inappropriate comments or gestures toward a player
• Booing or cheering at inappropriate times

SPECTATOR TIPS

Check The Weather
Check the weather forecast before you visit the Frys.com Open and dress appropriately. Expect cool mornings and sunny afternoons, so dressing in layers is the best idea.


Must-Have Items
Sunscreen, hat, comfortable shoes and binoculars.


Have A Plan
There are basically two ways to watch a golf tournament. “Parade Style” is where you pick a spot and watch the field pass by or “Cross-Country Style” is where you follow a particular player or group around the course.


Arrive Early
Arrive early to reserve a spot, especially if you plan on watching the tournament “Parade Style.” On Thursday and Friday, groups are simultaneously started on the first and tenth holes. Most people watch the action on the back nine holes which may give you the opportunity to get a better view of the players on the front nine.


Daily Pairing Sheet & Map
Pick up a daily pairing sheet to find out when the players tee off and the order of the groups. Pairing sheets include a course map, and are available near the entrances and at selected other locations on the tournament grounds. The pros usually play in threesomes on Thursday and Friday and twosomes on the weekends. Check the scoreboards to find out who the leaders are, and where they are on course. One way to tell the players from a distance is to look for their caddies, who wear color-coded vests (red, white and black), which will be indicated on the daily pairing sheet.


Autographs
Players are more receptive to requests for autographs after they have completed their round, so don’t interrupt them before or during their round. A good place to catch them is at the practice area, as most players will return there after they play their round.


Souvenirs and Concessions
Souvenirs can be purchased within the the Cordevalle Clubhouse. Concession stands are located throughout the tournament grounds.
